Dr Navi Pillay is President of the Advisory Council of the International Nuremberg Principles Academy. She served as High Commissioner for Human Rights at the United Nations from 2008 to 2014. She was the first South African to be awarded the degree of Doctor of Juridical Science at Harvard Law School. In 1995, after the end of Apartheid, Dr Pillay was appointed to the Supreme Court of South Africa. In the same year, she was appointed as Judge to the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, where she also served for four years as President. Later she served as Judge of the International Criminal Court. She is also co-founder of “Equality Now”, an international women’s rights organization.
